Christmas in July Fundraiser!

The Town of Balcarres has heard from many residents that the Street Light Christmas Decorations on Main Street need some attention and TLC. The old decorations have been falling apart for many years now and do not shine as bright as they once did. After consulting with a few different companies, purchasing new ones was deemed a better option than fixing the old ones. With that being said, we are hoping that businesses or individuals in Balcarres might be interested in donating towards or purchasing whole light fixtures for Main Street. Those who purchase whole light fixtures will have the opportunity to choose which fixture they would like to sponsor from a list of pre-selected options.

There are 14 street lights on Main Street to hang fixtures off of. With each fixture costing about $700 plus taxes, we are looking to raise a total of $11,000.00.

If you are interest in making a donation, please contact the Town Office via email at balcarrestown@sasktel.net or Victoria Folk at 306-334-2566. We thank you for your support on this project.

The Precautionary Boil Water Advisory that was issued on October 22nd, 2020 has now been lifted, effective October 26th, 2020 @ 11am.

The Town of Balcarres hopes that the Spoooooky Season has been TREATing you well and you haven’t come across any nasty TRICKs.

As we get closer to the big day we wanted to remind our community members that not everyone may be comfortable handing out candy this year. As a way to be kind to our neighbours we’ve designed a lovely orange pumpkin that residents can print out at home, or stop by the office and pick up a print out, to place on their door to let trick or treaters know they’re welcome!

Please remember to share with your little trick or treaters to respect if the porch lights aren’t on to move on to the next home.

Here are some ideas on how to celebrate Quarantine-O-Ween this year:

  • Decorate your house to the max!

  • Create a Candy Chute!

Use an old delivery tube, cardboard or chute and attach to your front stairs. Now all you have to do is drop treats from the top into candy bags or buckets below!

  • Boo or Ghost your friends!

Not THAT kind of ghosting!  Spread anonymous cheer by dropping a Halloween goodie bag or pumpkin on the doorsteps of friends and loved ones as a contact-free way to celebrate. This usually works by sneaking to your boo-ing subjects home after dark, ringing the doorbell, leaving the treats on their doorstep and running!  Check out You've Been Booed for more info!

  • Have a Halloween Movie Marathon

Pick your favourite spoooooooky movies and make some of your favourite treats like candy apples, caramel popcorn, or a box of your favourite halloween candy treats!

  • Organize a Ghouly Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt

Egg hunts aren’t just for Easter. Buy Halloween-themed eggs or Halloween-ify old plastic eggs you already own (glow sticks work, too!) with stickers or markers. Add candy, and hide them in the yard or around the house! Grab glow sticks and glow-in-the-dark eggs for a nighttime search.

  • Set up a Trick-or-Treat Driveway Table

Ditch the traditional communal Halloween candy bowl and have adults set up decorated tables or booths in their front yards where they can hand out individual bags or cups of candy. This keeps contact to a minimum while also still showcasing decorations and hauntingly good personality.

Check out Oriental Trading for some Driveway Table ideas!

  • Organize a scavenger hunt in your house

Decorate themed rooms throughout your house, hiding candy, toys, prizes or gift cards throughout the rooms. Send the kids on a scavenger hunt to discover all the hidden objects. Get a free printable scavenger hunt from Play Party Fun.
